Perth building inspections - case study - suspended timber floor structural problems - renovation

In this case study, our structural engineering team in Perth assisted with a number of issued identified during renovations.


The Problem:


The original flooring was deflecting excessively and was visibly not straight. Upon removing the original floorboards it was identified that the the floor joists were inadequate, an exiting timber bearer was showing signs of water damage and there was no insulation.

The Solution:


The solution consisted of a structural inspection to ascertain the adequacy of the existing structure. The Client in this case had some spare timber sections and an we undertook an engineering assessment and provided certified details. In some cases the existing joists required additional timber sections in order to meet the live loading. Insulation was also specified to meet the energy efficiency requirements.
